Intersections of HF and UX - a personal perspective

Although User Experience (UX) has been around for 20-25 years, its relationship to Human Factors (HF) remains unclear. Is UX really a different approach or merely stealing HF clothes? What exactly are the intersections between them? What might be unique? Drawing on his 40+ years of industry experience in the Defence and Transport (Air Traffic Control) sectors, Christopher Kelly offers a personal perspective on the subject.

Chris is a HF specialist (CErgHF, CPsychol) with many years of specifying, designing and evaluating "HCIs" on numerous complex projects. He is a recognised HF expert and has played a key role in the development of HF/HFI standards. He has been a member of various advisory groups over the years, most recently (before retiring) on the MOD-Industry HFI Steering Group.
