Looking to the future
The world’s biggest technology event, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), was held in Las Vegas last week and revealed a huge range of gear and gadgets. CES brings together the ideas of tomorrow and showcases the new designs that could make a difference to people’s everyday lives.
Artificial Intelligence played a major role in the new products on display at the four-day event, with the technology integrated into TVs, laptops and even plant pots.
Physical wellbeing was also covered and one innovation designed to boost performance was the Nike + Hyperice recovery shoes – futuristic-looking boots that use adjustable compression and heat to aid recovery. Prototypes of the shoes have already been used by athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Other health ideas included more affordable glucose monitors, smart rings that monitor heart health and devices to reduce eyestrain when using a smartphone.
Robots designed to make life easier were also on show, with a robot vacuum cleaner that can also pick up things left on the floor, another that can climb stairs and a lawnmower equipped with tank-style tracks.
Car manufacturers also unveiled their latest prototypes at the show, including Hyundai’s new holographic display which can project information across a windscreen and even reduce motion sickness in passengers.
