Helping Tech Take Off

Travellers at San José airport are being helped by an AI-powered humanoid robot that can give them information and answer questions in more than 50 languages. The cutting-edge machine is being trialled for four months at the busy transport hub in California, near America’s Silicon Valley.

Created by local start-up IntBot, the robot is designed to use real-world perception and natural interaction to help it navigate complex public environments. The airport is expecting thousands of football fans during this year’s World Cup and it’s hoped the robot will be able to make their experience smoother by giving them directions and travel advice.

Mookie Patel, director of aviation at San José Mineta International Airport, said: “San José sits at the centre of global innovation and our airport is the natural place to introduce technologies that are shaping the future. By piloting IntBot, we’re exploring how artificial intelligence can enhance the passenger journey which reinforces San José’s role as the gateway to Silicon Valley.”
