Celebrating past and present
A special issue of the journal Ergonomics has been published to celebrate our 75th anniversary.
Guest edited by former CIEHF Past President Mark Young and CIEHF Fellow Patrick Waterson, it explores the past, present and future of human factors, including automation and artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, ethics and diversity, equity and inclusion, and the future of work.
The changing face of technology is a focus as the future direction of travel for driverless vehicles is explored, while experts also discuss how human factors can play an important role in ensuring that AI benefits people’s performance and wellbeing.
And there’s a look back at the Think Human exhibition at the Museum of Making and how human factors education can be linked to the school curriculum to increase interest in and engagement with our profession.
Writing in their introduction, Mark and Patrick said: “The 75th anniversary of the CIEHF represents a significant milestone and covers most of the significant historical advances in both research and practice. It is, therefore, a timely opportunity to reflect on the state of the discipline – where we are and how we got here – as well as to consider the priorities for researchers and practitioners to ensure its future health over the next 75 years. Therein lay the motivation for bringing this special issue of Ergonomics together.”
