About us

Established: 2011
Indemnity: Company
Chartered ergonomists: 1

Company founder John Lovegrove is a chartered ergonomist with over 18 years’ experience as a practising ergonomist across multiple industries.

We provide our clients with the insight required to understand how workplace design and management decisions can affect the health, safety and well-being of their workforce. The first step is to request a workload assessment, and at Canary Designs Limited we use the NASA TLX Workload Analysis Toolkit. The outcome of the anonymous survey is an identification of the workload demands that are influencing the behaviour, health, safety and well-being of your organisations members. The survey is not restricted to the front line but can be used to analyse all of the organisational layers, all the way to the organisation’s leader.

In addition to workload analysis, we also use video observation techniques based on the knowledge we gained whilst working in the biomechanics department at DERA, Farnborough. We have used video observations for court cases, workplace investigations and time motion studies.

Canary Designs has the capability to simulate physical workspaces (Solidworks 2018) with digital human models (JACK V9.0), control systems using automation software (MoviconNext) and has developed close working relationships with joinery businesses that can create actual physical mock-ups.

In addition to Canary Designs’ own capability, we work closely with 3D scanning experts OR3D limited, product designers Design Reality and software solution providers Simsol, RiscIT, and Principality Consulting.

This enables Canary Designs clients the capability to capture a 3D model of a space, simulate the human interactions within the physical space, identify design shortfalls before any large financial commitments have been made. In the same vein, we are able to rapidly simulate control / alarm management systems to enable potential users early familiarisation with a new system and to identify design shortfalls at an early stage.
