Questions you might have

Can I upgrade my membership in the future?

Absolutely! You can apply to become a Technical Member or a Registered Member as your experience develops. You’ll need at least two years of human factors work experience for Technical Membership, or four years for Registered Membership. We recommend keeping a logbook of your work from the beginning of your Associate journey to help support your future application.

Will I automatically become Chartered?

Not just yet! Associate membership is the beginning of your professional journey, rather than an automatic route to Chartered status. You’ll first need to progress to Registered Membership and meet the relevant requirements before pursuing Chartered recognition.

Do I need a formal qualification in human factors to join?

Not necessarily. Associate membership is designed for people at different stages of their journey, including those exploring the discipline, moving from related fields or building on relevant professional experience. If you’re unsure which membership grade is right for you, our team can help.
