Design through the ages
A new exhibition will showcase innovative designs which could help older people live happier, healthier and more independent lives. ‘Designing for our Future Selves’ features ten ideas that aim to provide solutions to the problems of an ageing population.
They include smart insoles which can track mobility and gait to minimise the risk of a fall, and light installations which can improve the user’s circadian rhythms. The exhibition also featured a scooter-style walker designed to remove the stigma from using a traditional walking frame.
As well as displaying the finished products, the exhibition will also examine the design process and the importance of user experience and feedback. The exhibition, curated in partnership with the Design Age Institute, opens at the Design Museum in London on 24 February and runs until 26 March.
