Fitness for every body

An award-winning fitness device is helping wheelchair users access exercise more easily. The Wheely-X was given this year’s gold Edison Award for User Centred Design.

The system features an angled slope with tracks that manual wheelchairs can roll on to. The tracks are fitted with sensors which link to an app that can track distance, pace, calories and speed. Through the app, users can choose different combinations of movements and create their own training plan with personalised data. After six weeks of using Wheely-X, its creators Kangsters claim participants saw significant improvements in their fitness.

Also honoured in the Edison Awards for User Centred Design were an indoor parking system that helps drivers find an empty spot and software to help estate executors.

The annual awards recognise innovative products and business leaders from around the world.
