You’ve developed sound expertise in Human Factors.
Now, you can see it grow.
Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is a growing, rapidly-evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. Join us as a Nuclear Safety Inspector in the Human Factors team, and you’ll have the chance to explore a broad and diverse industry through a crucial role.
Our Nuclear Inspectors represent ONR, checking compliance, raising safety standards and reassuring the public. Our work can involve everything from inspecting sites to investigating incidents and enforcing the law. As part of our growing Human Factors team, you’ll focus particularly on assessing technical safety cases, focusing how individual, team and organisational performance all make an impact.
It’s important that you can make sound risk-based judgements in relation to a wide range of Human Factors topics and issues. But having the ability to influence, advise and persuade will be just as key. To work with diverse contacts within and outside ONR, you’ll need to collaborate, build relationships and express yourself well. Although you’ll be assigned to a specific part of the industry, you’ll rotate over time, gaining broad experience and applying your knowledge widely.
A capable Human Factors expert, you bring proven expertise across a number of Human Factors topics. You’ll have built your knowledge working in a high hazard or highly regulated industry – ideally the nuclear field. And you’ll have a relevant degree (or equivalent) and Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution (or equivalent experience). In addition to this background, you’ll understand the relationship between Human Factors and other technical disciplines. However, it’s your approach that will really make the difference. Assertive, resilient and adaptable, you’ll think independently and enjoy working at pace. Our high quality training will bring you up to speed and support your success throughout your ONR career.
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £68,950 - £81,999 (plus £4,052 if you’re based in London). Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). In addition, you’ll receive a generous holiday entitlement.
ONR is a Public Corporation with a Mission to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK’s licensed nuclear sites. Our staff is drawn from a wider range of professional backgrounds in order to run a stand-alone business with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits to representing the UK and ONR within the wider international nuclear community.
