About this meeting
This new steering group, led by Chartered member Kimberley Harding, has a dual mission:
- Drive an increase the number of human factors professionals in the rail sector
- Stimulate demand for human factors practitioners from within the rail industry
Why human factors in rail matters
- Human factors contributes to approximately 7% of the total risk from collisions between trains and road vehicles at level crossings.
- Implementing human factors principles can reduce accidents, improve efficiency, and enhance on-time performance in rail operations.
- The rail industry faces a critical shortage, needing 7,000 to 12,000 additional workers annually for the next 5-10 years.
